Genevieve was born in San Francisco on January 8th, 1981. She grew up outside the area until she was 13 when her parents decided to move to Glacier Park, Montana. After two years, the family then went on a road trip looking for a variety of ski towns and finally settled in Sun Valley, Idaho, where Genevieve considers home.
She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Drama and a Bachelor of Arts in English and American Lit at the New York University’s Tisch School Of The Arts, where she attended the Stella Adler Acting Studio and Atlantic Theater Co.
Before making her debut in television as Kris Furillo, Genevieve already was a seasoned actress on stage. She has performed in regional productions such as “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Crimes Of The Heart”, and “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”. She spent several years on the stage before landing the lead role on the ABC Family series “Wildfire”.
Genevieve has also been seen on “Mojave” in 2004, and on an episode of “The Dead Zone” in 2005. This was followed by roles in “Kids In America”, “Bickford Shmeckler’s Cool Ideas” and “Salted Nuts” in 2007.
Despite all these, she gained the most popularity when she booked the role of the demon Ruby on the fourth season of the CW hit series “Supernatural”. The character was initially played by actress Katie Cassidy but budgetary reasons kept her from reprising the role. Genevieve found it strange stepping into the shoes of Cassidy’s character, pointing out the conflicts of the demon’s origins and her present existence.
In the Fall of 2009, she had a recurring role on the ABC TV series “FlashForward” in which she portrayed Tracy Stark.
Genevieve married her “Supernatural” co-star Jared Padalecki on February 27th, 2010 in Idaho. On October 12th 2011, Jared publicly announced via Twitter that Genevieve was pregnant with the couple’s first child. She gave birth to a son Thomas Colton Padalecki at age 31, on March 19th, 2012 and a second son, Austin Shepherd Padalecki on the 22nd December 2013.
Since giving birth to her two sons, Genevieve has taken a break from acting. However she has expressed interest in working her way back, possibly through small term roles. Most recently she auditioned for Supergirl, now airing on the CW.
In November, it was announced that Genevieve and Jared are expecting their 3rd child together, this time a little girl.
